Food Safety Report: Sakesan Sushi & Robata, Ocean Avenue, San Francisco, CA, USA

1 year ago reported by user-qdjr8859 business

Sakesan Sushi & Robata, Ocean Avenue, San Francisco, CA, USA

1400 Ocean Avenue, San Francisco, 94112 California, United States

Food poisoning on 12/30/2022 from a pickup order. My toddler was puking uncontrollably for 2 days straight. While this was once our go-to takeout sushi spot, this is now one of the worst sushi spots in the city--all the other ones have never poisoned us with old or improperly-stored fish. We all ate different things (toddler had Ikura and udon, I had the orange bowl, and hubby had Uni, Tako, Bluefin Tuna, Bluefin Tuna Toro, Walu, etc. The hubby and I smelled a slight stench to the food before ingesting, however since we'd ordered here countless times prior and were hungry, we wrongly ignored it. We didn't eat much of it---but the little we ate was enough to ruin our New Year's and make us fear for the wellbeing of our toddler. We never give our toddler half-rate sushi, but this was a harsh wake-up call to no longer allow her to eat ikura which she loves...and to be that much more skeptical when eating sushi from more affordable places such as this. The Orange Bowl, besides smelling foul, has consistently has way too much seaweed seasoning atop the rice, and they have the gall to charge you extra to omit (when doesn't this save them time and money to omit?). Uni is pricey and made the hubby sick. I wrote reviews on Doordash but they declined to post; apparently they do not want customers to be warned of health risks when purchasing anything from the restaurants that pay DoorDash advertisement and service fees. DoorDash closed claim after claim even though I would often receive no response other than a seemingly manual automated email stating that the claim has been closed due to MY non-response (despite my communicating with their team frequently via both email, text, and phone calls and even specifically requesting that they do not preemptively close my claim yet again). After the convoluted runaround and no investigation by DoorDash into the incident at this restaurant (yes, I asked what measures they took to investigate or even inquire of restaurant management or whether there were other incidents of food poisoning around the same day there), they unfoundedly concluded that we did not have food poisoning. This unfounded conclusion of theirs is despite having had to visit the doctor who told us it was food poisoning, which is further supported because we each had different food from different establishments for lunch earlier in the day… so we essentially paid to get sick. My advice to you--don't risk eating anything from them. Check out my Yelp review for more info. We unfortunately still use Doordash but just be aware that they take absolutely no responsibility for anything you order via them, and require "proof" then refuse to tell you what such proof would be acceptable to them (since doctor's appointments, prescribed medications, and offering for them to speak to our physician are apparently invalid). | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Other
