Victorian health authorities are warning those who consumed food at Creatures of Habit cafe in Springvale Homemaker Centre in Melbourne's south-east between March 25 and April 8 should monitor for symptoms of Hepatitis A and seek medical attention if they appear, after two cases were linked to
this cafe. Anyone who dined at the cafe should be on the lookout for symptoms for up to 50 days, due to the virus's incubation period.
The cafe has since been thoroughly cleaned and is no longer a risk. No other venues in the centre are a risk.
Hepatitis A is a viral infection that affects the liver and is spread when an unknowing person consumes food or drink contaminated by the virus in the faeces of an infected person. While illness from the virus is typically mild, it can sometimes lead to hospitalization and severe illness, particularly in those with chronic liver diseases.
