IDPH Issues Reminder About Potential Hazards of Consuming Raw Milk

Illinois, United States
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has reported that at least 11 people have fallen ill in Illinois, USA due to consuming unpasteurized milk. The outbreak has been linked to Campylobacter, a pathogen known to cause gastrointestinal illness. The outbreak involves eleven confirmed cases of Campylobacter infection, all traced back to the consumption of raw milk from a single producer. Campylobacter can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, with more severe cases potentially leading to complications like irritable bowel syndrome and Guillain-Barré syndrome. The affected producer is currently notifying customers and cooperating with health officials to manage the situation.
The issue was discovered through routine health monitoring and reports from individuals who experienced symptoms after consuming raw milk. Illinois regulations require testing for certain indicators of infection in raw milk, but specific pathogen testing, such as for Campylobacter, is not mandated. This incident has prompted IDPH to remind consumers of the risks associated with raw milk consumption and to consider pasteurized alternatives for safety.

Hi, the Illinois Department of Public Health hasn’t released the name of the producer yet. They mentioned the source is cooperating and notifying customers directly. You can read the official IDPH notice here: https://dph.illinois.gov/resource-center/news/2025/november/release-20251107.html
