Product recalled: Sandwiches
Reason of the recall: Listeria monocytogenes
FDA Recall date: March 10, 2021
Recall details: MG Foods of Charlotte, NC is recalling various Turkey Sandwiches due to a potential contamination of Listeria mo... nocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, a Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The products were sold at distributors located at the Charlotte Douglas Airport and via vending machines and micro markets located in business locations in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and West Virginia. The company reacted swiftly and as of end-of-day March 5, 2021 affected products were removed from sale at all locations.
No illnesses have been reported to date. “Closure Date: 02-08-2021
Overflowing wastewater, no sanitizer. A floor sink wasn’t draining and wastewater was flowing into the food-prep area. Also, there was no sanitizer on site, which is required in all food facilities. Among the 13 other violations, the person in charge didn’t wash hands betw... een trying to unclog the floor sink and serving a customer; the inspector found a live roach, a dead roach and mouse droppings; the restaurant wasn’t keeping track of how long ham and cheese croissants were being kept at room temperature; there was mold inside the ice machine (not touching ice); shelving, floors and other surfaces needed cleaning; and numerous structural violations found in September had not been fixed. This was the restaurant’s third C grade and fourth closure since 2018 — it was shut down for cockroaches in August 2020, overflowing wastewater in October 2019 and cockroaches and no sanitizer in September 2018. It now faces an administrative hearing.

“Ordered two egg and cheese croissants and nothing else. I immediately started feeling bad. Horrible cramps, nausea, sweating, fever, and spitting up. I believe they save the egg that doesn't get used and use it for the next day or more. ”
