The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) announced a statewide recall and a quarantine order of raw sheep milk produced and packaged by Valley Milk Simply Bottled of Stanislaus County because of the presence of the bacteria Campylobacter jejuni. To date, no illnesses have been reported.
The recalled product is:
- Valley Milk Simply Bottled Raw sheep Milk, half-gallon (64 oz) plastic jugs, labeled as “Valley Milk Simply Bottled Raw Sheep Milk”. Expiration code dates of SEP 28 2022 through OCT 01 2022 are marked on the container.
The quarantine order came following the confirmed detection of the bacteria Campylobacter jejuni in the farm’s packaged raw whole sheep milk sampled and tested by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.
Consumers are strongly urged to dispose of any product remaining in their refrigerators. The current order does not include the farm’s raw cow milk or raw goat milk.
In case you experience Campylobacter symptoms such as diarrhea (often bloody), fever, nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
