Harris Teeter sushi related to 159 sick outbreak

Outbreak

Concord, North Carolina, United States

Cabarrus Health Alliance (CHA) and Harris Teeter officials are investigating multiple reports of illness linked to AFC sushi purchased and eaten from Harris Teeter stores at 358 George W. Liles Pkwy NW and at 1245 Concord Parkway North, both in Concord, NC. According to the last update, a total of 159 people have been reported sick, with symptoms ranging from vomiting, diarrhea, fever, muscle aches, to abdominal cramps. Ill people reported they ate sushi from the AFC Sushi kiosk before they became ill.

CHA advises those who are sick to stay hydrated and seek medical attention if symptoms do not improve within 24 hours. If medical attention is required, CHA advises requesting a stool sample to help identify the pathogen. “We are encouraging anyone who purchased sushi from the George w. Liles or the Concord Parkway Harris Teeter between November 13 and November 19, to throw away any purchased items or leftovers,” said Chrystal Swinger, CHA Environmental Health Director.

If you ate sushi from these Harris Teeter locations between November 13 and November 19 and developed vomiting, diarrhea, fever, muscle aches, and abdominal cramps, report it now.
