My spouse and I arrived on a Friday and were left waiting in the hotel lobby for literally approx. 2 hours to go to our room with a butler. Upon arrival at our room the butler opened the door, and the smell of mold was beyond overwhelming. We told the butler we would not be able to stay in a room with mold for health reasons (it was that bad). He tried moving us to another room and it was the same. We told him we had not eaten since day before and were going to get something to eat while they figured it out. Food was literally inedible but we digested what we could stomach and went back to the reception area where we were told that the hotel would put us in another room for the night and reimburse us the money so we could find safe accommodations. It was late at this time (almost 10) and so we went to the room he recommended,and it was not any better, but we decided to sleep with the door open and towels over our faces. Unfortunately, the room was above the pool and thus the huge party and loud noise made the door open thing not doable. Two in the morning woke up with horrid headache and began vomiting. Vomiting literally went on all night. At early morning my spouse went to find the guy who assured us he would refund us and get us another hotel and he was nowhere to be found and they said he will be in shortly and continued saying that. At about 945 am after 3 hours of waiting we realized they were playing this game with us and they told us that they were not refunding money. We had two choices go find a hotel in a strange country last minute while we are both so incredibly sick or try and get home. We flew home with being in the Dominican Republic for less than 24 hours. If the hotel and travel company had helped us out, we might have been able to salvage our vacation. It has been a number of weeks and I am still sick with on again and off again sickness. Trying to figure it out with doctors. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Headache
