Feb 21 Bacon Garlic Burgers from Sonic Drive In Sick

On Wednesday my oldest and I went to a fast food drive up and each got a burger and some tots.  We got a chicken sandwich and fries for my youngest kiddo (knock on wood, youngest is... See More still asymptomatic) Within 45 or so minutes of eating my oldest and I felt queasy and rumbling in our stomachs. In about 11/2-2 hrs, my oldest puked at work and came home.  The first vomit was food/then green twice/and then bile color. Diarrhea accompanied. At 9:30, I took them to the local ER as they could not stop vomiting.  They were treated for acute vomiting/acute diarrhea.  They took urine and blood samples.  They gave them Zofran and pain meds and sent us home. Kiddo continued to vomit several more times and the next day was just diarrhea.  On Friday, I vomited and started non stop diarrhea. We have terrible gut pain and gas.  We drank Gatorade, stayed hydrated, ate crackers and applesauce when we were able and yesterday we thought we were getting better. No one had any symptoms. We had disinfected as we went along to try to ensure no spread to youngest kid.  This evening we are nauseated and I have the diarrhea back.  We both took Zofran.  We know we have something.  We ate nothing that day other than the burger meal.  We had an appt with primary care on Monday and are awaiting stool test results. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Nausea, Vomiting, Other, Gas, Bile See Less

Colonna Brothers of North Bergen, NJ is recalling its 1.5oz Marcum Ground Cinnamon & 2.25oz Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon because of a possible health risk due to elevated lead levels. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with these products. The Cinnamon was distributed nationwide... See More through retail stores and mail order.

Short term exposures to very low levels of lead may not elicit any symptoms. It is possible that increased blood lead levels may be the only apparent sign of lead exposure. Additional signs and symptoms of lead exposure are more likely with acute exposure to higher levels of lead or chronic exposure to lead. The effects depend upon the amount and duration of lead exposure and age/ body weight. If a child is exposed to enough lead for a protracted period of time (e.g., weeks to months) permanent damage to the central nervous system may occur. This can result in learning disorders, developmental defects, and other long-term health problems. For adults, chronic lead exposure is associated with kidney dysfunction, hypertension, and neurocognitive effects.

The recall was the result of a targeted sampling program of discount brands by the FDA, following heightened sensitivity around Cinnamon. Colonna Brothers is participating in this recall voluntarily as requested by the FDA. Colonna Brother’s has not violated any Federal guidelines/legislation/laws regarding levels of lead in Cinnamon/Spice nor any protocols requiring testing for heavy metals. The FDA is stating that the lot codes above contain elevated levels of lead that the FDA deems a potential health risk.

Colonna Brothers has voluntarily ceased the production and distribution of all Cinnamon.

Consumers who have purchased the Supreme Tradition Ground Cinnamon or Marcum Ground Cinnamon, with the lot codes listed above, can return it to the store for a full refund. Anyone concerned they may have been exposed to lead, should contact their healthcare provider to report their symptoms.

Last night (March 9, 2024) my daughter ordered the ‘Philadelphia’ (raw salmon) and ‘crispy spicy tuna’ (raw tuna). She first consumed the tuna with no problem then ate all but one piece of the salmon. While eating the salmon it started not agreeing with her. She continued... See More to feel worse and started having increasingly intense abdominal cramps and nausea. About an hour or 1.5hrs after consumption she vomited and continued having severe cramps and nausea. I administered her 3 charcoal with laxative tablets and she managed to sleep. By morning she felt better (no cramps or nausea) and had several movements of diarrhea. The diarrhea may have been the result of the charcoal/laxative doing its job. She is fine now, AlhamduleAllah. Please note that we have been happy patrons of this restaurant for years with no issues. I will be calling them now to report the same. Hopefully this was an isolated incident and they will conduct proper an investigation and take necessary corrective measures to insure this doesn’t happen again.

I would like to mention that I contacted the restaurant and the manager assured me that they take the matter very seriously and immediately started investigating it. She said this is the first incident ever reported in their 10 years of business. I believe she was sincere and I hope they will identify and remedy the cause and not be harmed by the report. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Cramps
