CDC announced that this outbreak is over, as of January 06, 2022. To this date, a total of 15 people infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 have been reported from 10 states (CA, IN, IA, MI, MN, MO, NE, OH, PA and SD). 4 were hospitalized and 3 developed a type of kidney failure called hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). No deaths were reported. Illnesses started on dates ranging from October 13, 2021, to November 8, 2021.

As of December 03, 2021, 14 people infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 have been reported from 9 states (IN, IA, MI, MN, MO, NE, OH, PA and SD). 4 people were hospitalized and no deaths were reported. Illnesses started on dates ranging from October 13, 2021, to October 27, 2021. The investigation is ongoing.

CDC, public health and regulatory officials in several states, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) are investigating a multistate outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 infections linked to Josie’s Organics prepackaged baby spinach.
As of November 15, 2021, 10 people infected with the outbreak strain of E. coli O157:H7 have been reported from 7 states (IN, IA, MI, MN, MO, OH and SD). 2 people were hospitalized and no deaths were reported. Illnesses started on dates ranging from October 15, 2021, to October 27, 2021. The investigation is ongoing.
The product linked to this outbreak is Josie’s Organics Baby Spinach “Best by” date of October 23, 2021 (plastic clamshell containers), which was sold at stores nationwide in the United States.
CDC is advising people not to eat, sell or serve this product.
