Probably should have looked this up beforehand. Just ate the remainder of an opened pack of Hillshire ham as well, expiration labeled for Dec 2023. Upon opening I noticed a very strong alcohol smell and it also had a viscous layer on the outside slices, so I just removed the top and bottom slices and pat the rest dry. A little mayo, mustard, cheese on some toasted bread, I could barely notice anything wrong with it. In hindsight, I probably should have at least heat the ham slices on a pan or something. I'm typing this 10 minutes after finishing my lunch, wish me luck.

I used Hillshire Farm deli meat (smoked ham and Turkey) for a club sandwich on 9/17/23 and I have been having diarrhea ever since I ate it. I wasn’t sure if that was what was causing it so I made another sandwich as of today, 9/18/23, and yup! The toilet has been my best friend on both days. | Symptoms: Diarrhea See Less

I buy this lunch meat all the time at Walmart and haven’t experienced any problems maybe it’s the smell of the lunch meat being packaged or maybe your stomach is extremely sensitive to packaged lunch meat another thing I can think of is maybe someone at the store left it out and then decided to put it back in the fridge later

Hi, thanks for your comment. TIP: Frozen food can cause food poisoning, most commonly via Listeria, a pathogen that can survive freezing. In July 2021 a Listeria outbreak related to frozen fully cooked chicken caused three hospitalizations and one death. Also Deli meats such as ham can cause food poisoning. Ham can become contaminated with harmful bacteria including Listeria and Staph during processing. Listeria is the most common cause of ham food poisoning and symptoms can include fever, chills, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea.

    Have a great afternoon!

I bought the sausage at Walmart on 5/19/2023
Cooked for lunch about 1:30 on 5/20/23
At about 4:30 a.m. I woke up with horrible diarrhea, dizzy, pounding headache and ache over my entire body especially lower back. Also running a low grade fever for the entire day... See More on Monday in bed …and part of into Tuesday morning early… Tuesday diarrhea not as violent, headache gone but body aches and low grade fever… Wednesday I feel weak and stomach feels like it has a knot in the middle. And sharper pain now and again. I was very very sick… and still weak.
I will call my doctor tomorrow to se if she thinks I may need antibiotic. I have Graves’ auto immune disease. I don’t know if I have defenses to fight this out of my system on my own.
I called Walmart … they told me that they could give me my money back and a $25 gift certificate. They took a report over phone
But said that Hillshire Farms is an individual vendor … and they inspect the expiration dates and keep up with recalls not Walmart.
My doctor bill and medicine will not be covered with a $25 gift certificate.

I took photos of the pkg that I bought… then went back to Walmart and took phots of expiation dates of the same Smoked Sausage … some of the dates were just like mind… smudged off… some dates were clearly stamped… some not stamped at all.

I was a customer of Walmart… and a big customer for Hillshire Farms Smoked sausage. I’m just Thankful that we had not bought for my Grandson’s Graduation day
On Saturday 27 May. We Would be feeding a crowd we would have felt awful making our family and friends sick too.
Sadly I will be scared to buy again… with no one taking responsibility on what they are putting in stores. And sad thing is … food is so very expensive… and then makes us sick. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Fever, Headache, Body Ache, Weakness, Stomach Pain, Dizziness
