Food Safety advice for specific melons due to possible salmonella contamination

2 years ago source www.food.gov.uk

Recall notice

United Kingdom

UPDATE June 17, 2021

Additional information has become available that has shown that melons from Brazil are not likely to be affected.

Check the full update notice here: www.food.gov.uk

Source: FSA

May 29,2021

The FSA is advising consumers not to eat honeydew, cantaloupe, and galia melons which may be contaminated with salmonella. There have been some recent salmonella cases of illness in the UK, the possible source is thought to be whole honeydew, cantaloupe, and galia melons originating from Costa Rica, Honduras or Brazil bought on or before 28 May 2021.

As a consumer, you may be able to identify the country of origin from a sticker on the fruit, if you are not sure about the country of origin of your melon, please dispose of the fruit as a precaution. Only the melons listed above are affected.

FSA is advising people not to eat these melons and to dispose of them. Consumers must wash their hands and any surfaces that have been in contact with the melons thoroughly. This will help avoid the risk of cross-contamination and the risk of illness.

In case you are experiencing salmonella symptoms like diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever, it is important to report it. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance.

For more information, please check on FSA website: www.food.gov.uk
