Five Corners Meat Company Ltd. has issued a recall for its Canada 653 brand ground meat products due to the presence of extraneous material, specifically pieces of plastic. The affected products have been distributed in British Columbia and Yukon. The issue was identified during routine inspections by … See More
the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. The recall is classified as Class 3, indicating a low risk of adverse health consequences if consumed.

The recall includes four products under the Canada 653 brand:
- Medium Ground Beef Pork Blend (variable size, batch "16697") - best-before date of 24/03/22.
- Regular Ground Beef (454g, UPC 0 062639 375195) - best-before date of 24/03/22.
- Extra Lean Ground Beef (454g, UPC 0 062639 375201) - best-before date of 24/03/22.
- Lean Ground Beef (454g, UPC 0 056364 902603) - best-before date of 24/03/22.

If you have this product at home, do not consume it and return it to the store where it was purchased.

Consuming food contaminated with plastic pieces can potentially cause harm, depending on the size and shape of the plastic. Small, sharp pieces could cause injury to the mouth, throat, or digestive tract. Larger pieces could potentially cause choking or blockages in the digestive system. However, small, non-sharp pieces are likely to pass through the digestive system without causing harm. It's important to note that repeated or long-term exposure to certain types of plastics may have additional health effects, but this is outside the scope of foodborne pathogens and illnesses.

If you or a loved one are harmed or experiencing any symptoms, it is important to report it. Reporting can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
