Jalapenos can be a source of food poisoning. In 2012, jalapenos were recalled after routine testing found them to be contaminated with Salmonella. A Salmonella infection often occurs 12-72 hours after consumption, and is associated with stomach cramps and diarrhea. To limit infections, washing all produce before consumption is advised.
