1 year ago source sportskeeda.com business

Outbreak

2548 Nesconset Highway, Stony Brook, 11790 New York, United States

The Suffolk Department of Health Services is investigating a foodborne outbreak linked to Kumo Japanese located at 2548 Nesconset Hwy, Stony Brook, NY. To date, 28 people reported illnesses after eating at this place on Saturday 09/09/2023, of these 28, 12 were swiftly taken to Stony Brook University Hospital but all 12 were soon discharged.

The Health Department has linked the outbreak to mishandling and improper storage of cooked rice at this restaurant. This prompted health officials to investigate Bacillus cereus contamination, as improperly stored cooked rice can foster this bacteria. Kumo Japanese Steakhouse is under investigation in connection with the outbreak, but they are cooperating with health officials. The investigation is ongoing.

In case you experience vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea, report it now. It can help to detect & resolve outbreaks early and prevent others from being harmed, and it enables better surveillance. If symptoms persist, seek medical care.
