Northeast Seafood Products, Denver, CO, is voluntarily recalling certain types of seafood distributed in Colorado and were processed at our facility because they have the potential of being contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly... people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more sever illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e. infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The items being recalled are: Haddock, Monkfish, Bone-in Trout, Grouper, Red Snapper, Red Rock Cod, Ocean Perch, Pacific Cod, Halibut, Coho Salmon, Atlantic Salmon Portions, Lane Snapper, Tilapia, All Natural Salmon Fillet, Pacific Sole, and Farm Raised Striped Bass.
These items were distributed from May 2021 to October 7, 2021 to restaurants and Albertsons, Safeway, and Sprouts supermarkets in Colorado. The recalled items would have sold out of their fresh seafood cases. The Pacific Cod sold through Sprouts is not being recalled.
The recall is the result of several positive samples revealed during an FDA. inspection. FDA and CDC have informed us that these positive samples are linked to an outbreak of Salmonella illness. The production area of our facility has been temporarily shut down until such time as the FDA and the company determine that the problem has been corrected.
Consumers who have purchased raw, fresh, unpackaged seafood are urged to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Only two people did not report travel to Colorado in the week before they got sick. Illnesses started on dates ranging from May 11, 2021, to September 7, 2021. The investigation is ongoing.

Got a piece of fresh halibut from the seafood counter. Cooked it fully for dinner. Woke up 5 am with terrible diarrhea, lasting several hours. | Symptoms: Diarrhea
Had English Cut and then the "extra" helping the evening of Friday, July 9, as did one of my sons, the other son had only the original serving. We all got diarrhea the following day. The two people with extra cuts had diarrhea through Sunday. Very disappointing,... but it was great during the meal.
The only person not to get sick was my wife, who had the halibut. | Symptoms: Diarrhea, Other

April 22 2021 stomach cramping all day. I needed to go to the restroom and had diarrhea 3 times between 12pm-3pm. Stomach cramps would not get better. Only worse. Around 9pm I was driving home and had to throw up on the side of the road. When... i got home I had diarrhea again and started getting cold to a point I was shaking and I couldn't warm up. Stayed in bed but had severe stomach cramps and nothing would help them to away. Fell in and out of sleep and going to the bathroom only to have diarrhea again. No more vomiting though just nausea. Got a fever and my body was super hot but i felt really cold. Eventually my joints started to ache. And got a big headache. Morning felt better but after liquids stomach still cramping. Started to think about what I ate. Had a dragon drink in the morning, but my husband had one too and he was okay. The day before I had a shrimp basket from Dairy Queen which my husband didn't eat. All other food we both had and he is perfectly fine. So I started to think it might be the shrimp. (But I'm not 100% sure). I have had the same symptoms when i ate halibut once before last summer which I had stomach cramps and vomited also. | Symptoms: Nausea, Diarrhea, Vomiting, Fever, Cramps, Headache, Stomach Pain, Shaking
