Scombroid poisoning can occur when consuming improperly preserved fish. The toxin acts as a histamine and is produced following the growth of bacteria in improperly stored fish. There’s no sure-fire way of testing the presence of Scombroid in fish. Fish containing scombroid toxin may taste peppery or metallic.
